The “Dare to Dream” Spring Conference was held in Woodland Hills from April 21 – 23. At the Friday night dinner, three of our members were honored for their Years Of Service: Marcy Shewmon – 35 years; Jean Duffy – 30 years; and Nancy Nevitt – 15 years.
The theme for Saturday night’s evening was GIRLS NIGHT OUT: RED CARPET EVENT, where we were to dress as our favorite movie character. We chose the Movie “Grease” and dressed as the “Pink Ladies.”
Our club was privileged to host the Friendship Grant International Visitor at Spring Conference. Margaret Ikiara, representing SI Meru, Kenya, is a Founding Member and Executive Director of Community Initiatives for Rural Development, CIFORD Kenya, Margaret lkiara is trained in agriculture from Egerton University, Njoro, Kenya and has over 20 years’ of experience working with the community in Agriculture and other social dynamics. She and some friends founded CIFORD Kenya in 2002 to address some of the challenges faced by community members, especially women and girls in Tigania east and west, Meru County. She says, ” Here we experienced large numbers of female genital mutilation (FGM), school drop outs, early marriages and poor hygiene.” CIFORD used the limited resources that were available to train the community and the fight against FGM.
